A Preliminary Study on Developing the Items of the Toddler Parental Reflective Functioning

Abstract
This study is to provide basic data in order to develop a scale to recognize importance of ``toddler(up to 36month) parental reflective functioning`` and evaluate the functions based on components of the functions after looking into the elements. For this, literature and advanced researches were considered. Targeting experts with enough experiences in education and counselling of parents, in-depth interviews were implemented. Study results which were extracted from the data of theories and the interviews are like the next. First, the construction factors of toddler parental reflective functioning are composed of seven lower dimensions such as interest in the mental state of parents, recognizing mental states of parents, overt implementation, interest in the mental state of child, recognizing mental states of child, overt implementation for recognizing mental states of child, recognizing peculiarity of mental states in relation. They can be tied into three areas like parents, children, and relations. Second, as sub-scales of the toddler parental reflective functioning, a total of 86 were extracted. After verifying content validity, by eliminating questions three points and under, namely, 9 were deleted and 17 were added. Finally, 89 questions were extracted. Based on the study results, a discussion was had and implications were proposed for future researches.
